What Work is Taking Place?

  • On Wednesday May 6, 2020, Chaplin Crescent will be closed between Eglinton Avenue West and Russell Hill Road, and the laneway south of Eglinton Avenue between Chaplin Crescent and Russell Hill Road will be closed behind Toronto Fire Station 135 (641 Eglinton Avenue West) while crews install a tower crane.  Emergency service vehicles will be permitted through the closure.  TTC buses will be detoured onto Russell Hill Road.  Eglinton Avenue will remain open while the crane is installed. No thru traffic will be permitted through the laneway, however, property access will be maintained from the east end of the laneway.  The crane will be in place for approximately one (1) year and will be used to lift equipment and material in and out of the station box and entrances. The crane will not swing live loads over adjacent properties or the sidewalk.

Hours of Work

  •  Wednesday May 6, 2020 from 4:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
  • Construction takes place on a 24 hour basis, Monday through Sunday – read the construction notice here
  • Work may be rescheduled, or be longer or shorter than expected

What to Expect

  • A tower crane will be installed at the Tertiary Entrance work zone  located on the south side of Eglinton, east of Chaplin Cres and will be used to lift materials in and out of work zones
  • Temporary closures and traffic prohibitions will be in effect
  • Some noise can be expected when the crane is installed
  • Property access will be maintained from the east of the laneway

Traffic & Pedestrian Details

  • Chaplin Cres will be closed between Eglinton Ave and Russell Hill Rd, emergency service vehicle excepted
  • The Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will be closed behind Toronto Fire Station
  • Property access will be maintained
  • Parking on Russell Hill Rd will be prohibited during the closure
  •  Traffic control personnel and/or a Paid Duty Officer will be present
  • Toronto Paramedic Services Station 18 vehicles will be parked within the closure on Chaplin Cres

TTC Details

  • TTC bus #14 Glencairn will be on detour during the closure.  Buses will detour onto Eglinton Ave and Russell Hill Rd.  For more information, please visit www.ttc.ca

Travelling Smart during Construction


Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
