What Work is Taking Place?
As early as Monday April 4, 2022, crews at Avenue Station will begin permanent wet utility installations and road restoration works at the Main Entrance site. This work will take place on Avenue Road north of Eglinton Avenue West for approximately eight (8) weeks. Two traffic phases will be implemented to complete the works safely. Significant traffic and pedestrian changes will be in effect. Please carefully read the details below.
What to Expect
Construction activities will include, excavation, backfilling, fire hydrant installations, and sewer connection works. Crews will construct a new sidewalk and restore the roadway upon completion of the utility works. Wayfinding signage, fencing, and traffic barriers will be in place to delineate the work zones. Traffic control personnel and/or a Paid Duty Officer will be in place while traffic changes are being implemented. Noise from construction activity can be expected. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection.
HOURS OF WORK
· As early as Monday April 4, 2022 approximately eight (8) weeks
· Phase One: This traffic stage will be in place24-hours a day, seven days per week, for approximately eight (8) weeks
· Phase Two: This traffic stage will be implemented on Saturday April 9 – Sunday April 10, 2022, and Saturday April 23 – Sunday April 24, 2022
· Construction activities are expected to take place Monday – Sunday between 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
· This work may be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
TRAFFIC DETAILS
· Phase One:
o Southbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one through lane north of Eglinton Avenue West
o Northbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one through lane north and south of Eglinton Avenue West.
o The dedicated southbound left turn lane from Avenue Road onto Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained.
o Eglinton Avenue West will be reduced to one westbound lane at the Main Entrance.
· Phase Two:
o Southbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one lane north of Eglinton Avenue West
o Northbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one lane north and south of Eglinton Avenue West.
o The southbound left turn from Avenue Road onto Eglinton Avenue West will be restricted
o Eglinton Avenue West will be reduced to one westbound lane at the Main Entrance.
PEDESTRIAN DETAILS
· The sidewalk on the west side of Avenue Road, north of Eglinton Avenue West, will be closed.
Pedestrian access will be maintained via a temporary walkway; pedestrians will be diverted east around the work zone
TTC DETAILS
· All TTC bus stops will remain in their current positions.
· Access to TTC will be maintained at all times.
