Community Engagement Session

Due to COVID-19 and the rapid need to create physical distancing in the shelter system, our typical engagement process (which focuses on communication and integration of new sites, not the location of new sites) was not possible until now. In an effort to practice physical distancing to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and promote collective well-being, this Information Session will be online and phone-in.

‪Work has now begun on constructing the “Lost Stations” on the Beltline Trail! We’re making improvements to our beloved linear park, creating age-friendly places to rest while celebrating the story of the railroad that once had stations throughout our midtown neighborhoods.‬

This Toronto trail is getting new platforms where old train stations used to be

The Belt Line Railway was a small blip in Toronto train history: the commuter rail service, which was built in 1892, only operated for about 28 months after all. 

But the pedestrian trail that runs over it today, the Beltline Railpath, will honour its train track past with a new project called Lost Stations.

Lost Stations will introduce three resting areas to the Railpath in honour of three historic stations that once sat along the track.

More than 20 stations sat along the railway before the depression in 1893, but Lost Stations will focus on those which used to exist in Ward 12, on the Kay Gardner portions of the Railpath: Eglinton Station, Upper Canada Station, and Yonge Street Station.

"The Beltline ‘Lost Stations’ Project is a way to highlight the trail’s railway history and the communities it runs through, and to enhance and bring a sense of place to the trail for future generations," said Ward 12 Councillor Josh Matlow in a statement. 

There will be no subway service on Line 1 between St Clair and Union stations on Saturday, August 8, 2020 for Automatic Train Control signal system installation. Shuttle buses will operate.

Summerhill, Wellesley, College, Dundas, Queen and King stations will be closed. All other stations will remain open for the purchase of PRESTO fares and connection to surface routes.

Oxford Properties is preparing to engage the community at Yonge & Eglinton on the future of Canada Square continuing a process hat stated in 2017.

As a member of the Oriole Park Association you are invited to attend a virtual meeting to hear the project team discuss feedback received from previous engagement events  and describe the master planning process that will be undertaken for Canada Square.

A meeting has been scheduled on August 12^th , 2020 at 4:00pm to discuss the future of Canada Square with members of the Oriole Park Association. While the meeting will begin at 4:00pm we encourage participants to join a few minutes beforehand to ensure their connection is good.

CafeTO patios are installed!   As part of the City of Toronto Cafe TO program, the Eglinton Way BIA installed its 7 curb lane closures last Thursday. There are two types of closures: curb lane patios (for the restaurants and bars) and parklets (public spaces for visitors to enjoy and linger on our streets). Metrolinx is building the Eglinton Crosstown, Toronto’s new 19-kilometre light rail transit (LRT) line that will run along Eglinton Avenue with a central 10 km underground section. The Crosstown will connect Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east, and the new service will be up to 60% faster than the bus service today. With 25 stations and stops and connections to 3 TTC subway stations, 54 local bus routes, 3 GO Transit lines and the UP Express, the Crosstown will improve travel times and change the way we move through the heart of the city.         

Upcoming Concrete Pour at Chaplin Station Saturday July 18, 2020

What Work is Taking Place?

*        On Saturday July 18, 2020, a large concrete pour will take place at the Chaplin Station Main Entrance site.  900+ cubic metres of concrete will be poured into the station box underground to form an invert slab.  The invert slab will flatten the bottom of the tunnel so that track can eventually be laid.  Two concrete pumps will be placed within work zones and several concrete trucks will deliver concrete to the site every hour.  The pour will take approximately 14 hours to complete.

Hours of Work

*        Saturday July 18, 2020 beginning at 5:00 a.m. for approximately 14 hours

*        Work may be longer or shorter than expected, and may be rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances

What to Expect

*        Noise from concrete trucks and pumps

*        10+ concrete trucks per hour

*        Concrete truck staging within work zones

*        To allow for continuous turning of the mixer and discharging of concrete, concrete trucks must remain running

Traffic & Pedestrian Details

*        Traffic control personnel will be present to assist with truck entry and egress

*        There is no change to the current traffic configuration and pedestrian routes associated with this work

*        Chaplin Cres and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will remain closed until July 31, 2020

Travelling Smart during Construction

Travel delays are expected with the Crosstown construction. Please allow extra time for your journey. Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Crosstown construction. When possible, please travel during the off-peak period between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

 

Stay Informed

There will be no subway service on Line 1 between Lawrence and St Clair stations on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19 to accommodate Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit construction. Shuttle buses will operate.

As Lawrence Station is not yet an accessible station, customers travelling southbound on Line 1 who require an accessible connection should exit the train at York Mills Station and see any TTC customer service employee for assistance.

All stations will remain open for the sale of fares and access to surface routes.

I am writing to share an update on safety initiatives on the TTC. Effective July 2^nd, 2020, it will be mandatory to wear a mask or face covering on the TTC, with exemptions for children under two years of age and persons with underlying medical conditions.
