We have been receiving many calls & emails about the recent Car Jacking that occurred in the Proudfoot Ave & Hillhurst Blvd Area.

We know this has created significant public concern about safety. There has been an increase in certain crimes , including auto theft, assault along with car jacking within the city.

I can assure you that these crimes are a top priority for 53 Division & all available resources & specialized Toronto Police units are working together to investigate these incidents while ensuring the safety of the public.

Wet Utility Works and Road Restoration at Avenue Station

April 4, 2022

What Work is Taking Place? As early as Monday April 4, 2022, crews at Avenue Station will begin permanent wet utility installations and road restoration works at the Main Entrance site. This work will take place on Avenue Road north of Eglinton Avenue West for approximately eight (8) weeks. Two traffic phases will be implemented to complete the works safely. Significant traffic and pedestrian changes will be in effect. Please carefully read the details below.   What to Expect Construction activities will include, excavation, backfilling, fire hydrant installations, and sewer connection works. Crews will construct a new sidewalk and restore the roadway upon completion of the utility works. Wayfinding signage, fencing, and traffic barriers will be in place to delineate the work zones. Traffic control personnel and/or a Paid Duty Officer will be in place while traffic changes are being implemented. Noise from construction activity can be expected. Expect delays while travelling through the intersection.   HOURS OF WORK ·       As early as Monday April 4, 2022 approximately eight (8) weeks ·       Phase One: This traffic stage will be in place24-hours a day, seven days per week, for approximately eight (8) weeks ·       Phase Two: This traffic stage will be implemented on Saturday April 9 – Sunday April 10, 2022, and Saturday April 23 – Sunday April 24, 2022 ·       Construction activities are expected to take place Monday – Sunday between 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. ·       This work may be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. TRAFFIC DETAILS ·       Phase One: o   Southbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one through lane north of Eglinton Avenue West o   Northbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one through lane north and south of Eglinton Avenue West. o   The dedicated southbound left turn lane from Avenue Road onto Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained. o   Eglinton Avenue West will be reduced to one westbound lane at the Main Entrance. ·       Phase Two: o   Southbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one lane north of Eglinton Avenue West o   Northbound traffic on Avenue Road will be reduced to one lane north and south of Eglinton Avenue West. o   The southbound left turn from Avenue Road onto Eglinton Avenue West will be restricted o   Eglinton Avenue West will be reduced to one westbound lane at the Main Entrance.  PEDESTRIAN DETAILS ·       The sidewalk on the west side of Avenue Road, north of Eglinton Avenue West, will be closed. Eglinton Crosstown LRT Construction Notice

Extended: Chaplin Crescent Closure for Pile Removals and Utility Works February 14, 2022 Chaplin Crescent will remain closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russel Hill laneway until early March 2022, as crews continue pile removals and dry utility works at the intersection. Eglinton Avenue West will remain open. Significant traffic changes will be in effect. Please carefully read the details below.   What to Expect Chaplin Crescent will remain closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway; emergency service vehicles will be permitted through the road closure. East-west traffic on Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained, as well as the westbound right turn from Eglinton Avenue West to Chaplin Crescent. The southbound right turn from Chaplin Crescent to Eglinton Avenue West will be maintained and the southbound left turn will be reinstated. The crosswalks on the north, south and east side of the intersection will remain open. The Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will remain closed behind the Tertiary Entrance; local access will be maintained. TTC bus route 14 Glencairn will be on detour for the duration of the closure - see TTC details below.  To accommodate the TTC detour, on-street parking on Russell Hill and Tarlton Roads will be prohibited for the duration of the closure. Noise from construction activity, such as excavators and truck use, can be expected. Site lighting can also be expected. Hours of Work Chaplin Crescent will remain closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russel Hill laneway until early March 2022. Work will take place between 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday to Sunday. Both Chaplin Crescent and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will be closed on a 24-hour basis. The closure duration may be longer or shorter than expected. Construction may not take place each day of the closure period.  Traffic Details Chaplin Crescent will remain closed between Eglinton Avenue West and the Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway. The southbound left turn from Chaplin Crescent to Eglinton Avenue West will be reinstated. Only emergency service vehicles will be permitted through the road closure. To accommodate the TTC detour, on-street parking on Russell Hill and Tarlton Roads will be prohibited for the duration of the closure. Property access will be maintained. Pedestrians Details The Chaplin-Russell Hill laneway will remain closed behind the Tertiary Entrance. The crosswalks on the north, south and east side of the intersection will remain open. Transit Information TTC bus route 14 Glencairn will be on detour for the duration of the closure. Westbound buses will turn right onto Tarlton Rd, left onto Eglinton Ave W, and continue north on Chaplin Cres. The Toronto Police Service is informing the public of a homicide investigation.

On Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 10:08 p.m., police responded to a unknown trouble radio call at 916 Avenue Road.

It is reported:

- officers arrived and located a man with life-threatening injuries

- the man was immediately taken to hospital

- on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased

He has been identified as Ikechidiadi (Ike) Kaja, 49, of Toronto.

Investigators are seeking any witnesses to come forward, who were in the area on Sunday, January 23, 2022, between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., and any video footage.

The 53 Division Fraud Unit would like to make the public aware of a TAXI SCAM taking place within our Communities.

Please read this bulletin regarding recent taxi scams. The suspects are active in areas of Yonge and Eglinton and Mt Pleasant and Eglinton.

These young south Asian suspects are using Covid-19 as an excuse to scam the victims. One suspect stands on the sidewalk and the other suspect remains in the driver seat of the fake taxi. The suspect on the sidewalk stops the victim, saying that the driver does not accept cash and asks for help. The victim is provided cash, then asked to use their debit card to pay for the taxi fare in exchange.

The victim gives his/her card to the driver to make the payment and enters his/her pin code to the fake machine. The driver then swaps the bank card with a similar card and the victims walks away.

Later, the suspects use the stolen debit card to empty the victim’s bank account in less than 24 hours.
